With the new iTrip Auto, Griffin Technologies has made some major improvements to its original iTrip – an FM transmitter designed specifically for the iPod – by adding two new features: a simple channel selector and a DC-power supply for direct power connection.
The channel selector, with its easy-to-use tune-and-select button array, and clear, compact LCD screen, is a marked improvement over the original iTrip because it works out of the package with no initial software installation and setup.
Similarly, the ability to set channels from the transmitter means that you no longer have to pause a song, and maneuver through various iPod menus to change the station, leaving you free to keep the tunes jamming, even if you suddenly find yourself in an area with an interfering FM signal.
Finally, the built-in DC plug does double-duty, charging the iPod and powering the transmitter at the same time, guaranteeing that you’ll never loose juice during that all-important guitar solo again.
The only downside to the iTrip Auto is that it only works off of DC power, so anytime you want to play your iPod through the radio at home, you’ll either need to invest in some good quality cables, or the standard iTrip that powers off the iPod battery.
